Tain-l'Hermitage is home to several of the great houses of the northern Rhône, all with a tasting room a few minutes' walk from the house. All around, the Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph estates can be visited by bike or by car.

M. Chapoutier

Domaine Mucyn
In Gervans, a few kilometres north of Tain, in a former riverside inn. Jean-Pierre and Hélène Mucyn farm 14 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Cornas. Tasting room open on weekdays, free tastings.
The Crozes-Hermitage growers
Around Tain, in Gervans, Larnage, Mercurol, Chanos-Curson or Pont-de-l'Isère, dozens of family estates open their tasting rooms, often by appointment. We share our addresses when you arrive.
Saint-Joseph, on the Ardèche side
Across the footbridge, the slopes of Tournon, Mauves and Saint-Jean-de-Muzols carry the Saint-Joseph appellation. Growers reachable by bike along the ViaRhôna.
Tips
Planning your tastings
Tasting rooms are open during the day, Monday to Saturday, often Sunday in season. Cellar tours and workshops must be booked, especially at weekends and in summer.
Half a day is enough for two or three tasting rooms on foot. Start with the Cave de Tain for an overview of the appellations, then refine at one of the houses. And bring a bottle back for the terrace.
On the Ardèche side, the Marc Seguin footbridge leads to Tournon and the Saint-Joseph growers. Cornas and Saint-Péray are half an hour away by car.

Can we visit the cellars without a car?
Yes, that is one of Tain's advantages: the houses are in the town, and the house is in the centre. You taste, you walk home.
